You have been waiting for this day since the design and fabrication has been finalized and you are excited for the next phase.

Trucks rolling into the job site, crane, and crew at the ready. Reminds me of my childhood days building MeccanoTM sets. It did not take long to realize dumping the entire box on the floor made construction hard compared to keeping all the parts and components organized.

Primary steel structural frames are delivered in tandem for the most efficient offloading and lay down sequences based on erection drawings including special shipping notes and requirements you requested on your quote and order form.

Care and attention to planning site lay down and sequencing of installation will ensure a smooth erection process. This can include marking site drawings for set up area, distance between loads and direction of laydown. Marked up site drawings can then be coordinated with site supervisor, general contractor, and transportation company so everyone is on the same page. Not only does this help with organizing all the MeccanoTM pieces but it allows for planning proper storage, drainage, and temporary protection.

Reviewing packing slips, bills of landing and shipping documents will ensure all the bits and pieces have arrived on site, undamaged and complete. Any damaged, short, or missing items must be checked, documented, and reported as soon as possible.

Considerations for site preparation:

Access to Site – Before any material delivery to site, ensure efficient access has been obtained. Material delivery will proceed smoothly and without costly delays with proper site preparations.

Power Line Clearance – Always watch for potential interference from overhead and/or buried cables. Have overhead lines moved away from areas where equipment will be operating. Always locate lifting and unloading equipment far away from overhead lines.

Access from Roadway – If trucks are to enter the site, ensure that there are sufficient turning space and suitable approach with proper driving surface.

Equipment Access to Building Slab – Provide a ramp for equipment to get on and off the slab without damage. Keep the weight of the equipment off the edge of the slab. Locate the equipment access away from anchor bolts and other embedded items. Never allow heavy equipment onto a slab until it has cured.

Lifting Equipment – Obtain suitable equipment for lifting and moving the various building components.

Optimize Equipment Use – Unload building components from the truck(s) as close as possible to their installed location. Consult the Erection Drawings to determine where the components will be required. Whenever possible, plan the unloading process to lead into the erection.
