Imperial Seed Opens Doors on Brand New BEHLEN Steel Building Complex
Brandon (MB) – July 13, 2017 – On July 11, Manitoba-owned seed company Imperial Seed was celebrating the grand opening of its brand new international agriculture hub, located on the CentrePort Canada footprint in Winnipeg and housed in two Manitoba-made BEHLEN Industries steel buildings. The $8-million 20-acre hub includes a 20,000 square foot seed processing plant, office space, and seed testing lab, as well as a 30,000 square foot storage warehouse. Both rigid frame structures were manufactured two hours away in Brandon by BEHLEN Industries LP. Set to become fully operational in August 2017, less than one year after the order was finalized through BEHLEN Authorized Builder Crane Steel, the new facilities will help Imperial Seed double their seed multiplication services, packaging, and employee base while also being ready for any future expansions wanted. “Manitoba’s economy stands to benefit greatly from Imperial Seed’s strategic and ambitious new expansion,” said Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler. “This innovative facility will service the agricultural industry in many ways, most notably by providing more forage contracts to Manitoba producers and showcasing how varieties perform in Manitoba conditions on its test plots. Our government congratulates Imperial Seed on opening this tremendous new facility.” BEHLEN Industries is proud to support business owners like Imperial Seed President Kurt Shmon on their business expansions, providing a high-quality locally manufactured product. Over the past 47 years, BEHLEN Industries LP has grown to be the largest manufacturer of steel building systems in Canada. It now serves customers worldwide through a growing network of authorized buildings and continues to earn a reputation as a global leader.
